Prayer and meditation are foundational to our beliefs and practices at Unity Renaissance. When we become quiet and turn within, we find the presence of God in us — and all the peace, love, joy, wisdom, guidance and strength we could ever want.

Prayer

“Prayer is exhaling the spirit of man and inhaling the spirit of God.”

~ Edwin Keith

Prayer is an integral part of our spiritual community and activities. Through prayer, we maintain our awareness of and connection with God.

In addition to encouraging personal prayer, Unity Renaissance offers one-on-one prayer support from our minister, licensed teachers, and chaplains. The mission of our Prayer and Pastoral Care team is “to encourage awareness of Spirit within and inspire a way of life that brings love, freedom, peace and joy.” Toward that end, we reach out to members of our spiritual community to offer prayer, comfort and support. All prayer requests are held strictly confidential.

To Request Prayer Support

In person

Prayer Chaplains are available on Sundays before and after the 11 a.m. service for one-on-one prayer. Look for the individuals wearing purple prayer stoles.

Online

To submit an online prayer request to Unity Renaissance, click here. Prayer requests may also be submitted online to  Silent Unity, the 24/7 prayer ministry sponsored by Unity World Headquarters.

By Phone

You may call the church at 757-420-5280 during office hours and request prayer support from the minister, a licensed teacher, or one of our chaplains. If a representative from our pastoral care staff is not available, you may leave a message and someone will call you back.

You may also call the Unity Prayer Ministry (Silent Unity) anytime day or night for live prayer support, free of charge. The number is 816-969-2000.

In Writing

Prayer boxes are located in the foyer of the church and in our chapel. Names are sent to our prayer chaplains for the individuals to be held in prayer, and are then sent to Silent Unity to be held in prayer for 30 days.

Meditation

Unity Renaissance embraces meditation as a transformational spiritual practice. Individuals are welcome to use our chapel for private meditation during church operating hours.

In addition, group meditation is available between the two services on Sunday, from 10:20 to 10:45 a.m.   Classes and workshops on prayer and meditation are also available periodically.

Prayer Chaplain Program

Unity Renaissance offers interested individuals the opportunity to become prayer chaplains. Through their training, prayer chaplains:

  • Deepen their own spirituality and connection with God
  • Experience personal and spiritual transformation
  • Learn how to stand in prayerful support of our spiritual family

Prayer chaplains serve for 12 months at a time. Informational meetings are held each year.

For more information on becoming a chaplain or finding other ways to support congregants in need, contact the Director of Prayer and Pastoral Care.
