“How to Use Your Golden Key”

February 9, 2018

Last Sunday, I shared Emmet Fox’s “Golden Key” to happiness and harmony:
“All you have to do is this,” he says. “Stop thinking about the difficulty, whatever it is, and think about God instead.”

That may sound simplistic — but when we shift our attention from everyday concerns, worry, and fear, and focus instead on the magnificence of creation and on Absolute Oneness, we not only feel different, we see differently. This is how prayer and meditation work. They align us with Spirit and lift our consciousness.  When we return to daily life, problems that previously seemed overwhelming become surmountable — they may even disappear entirely.

Our ability to choose what we think about is our ticket to freedom. It is how we create our own reality. As we say in Unity, “Thoughts held in mind produce after their kind.” In another of his essays, Fox, a leading New Thought spiritual teacher of the early 20th century, writes (slightly paraphrased):

The more you think about your indigestion or your arthritis, the worse it will become. The more you think of yourself as healthy and well, the better your body will be. The more you think about lack, bad times, etc., the worse your business will be; and the more you think of prosperity, abundance, and success, the more of these things you will bring into your life. The more you think about your grievances or the injustices that you have suffered, the more such trials you will continue to receive. And the more you think of the good fortune you have had, the more good fortune will come to you.

What are you choosing to think about? Try shifting your awareness to God, Infinite Mind, Universal Life, the Ground of All Being, Divine Love, the Great Mystery, whatever you choose to call it — and see what the Golden Key unlocks for you!
