This past Sunday, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of youth who blessed us with their presence. It was obvious that they wanted to share with us what they experienced during their Sunday experience. After the service, I was invited to attend the teachers’ meeting. The meeting was the highlight of my week. A presentation by Shafeeq Ameen, about Understanding the Black Uniteen and Y.O.U. was educational, enlightening, and inspirational. And after listening to the discussion led by Ana Vincent, Bea Clendenin revealed the secret to their success. Every teacher’s love, enthusiasm, and commitment are the driving force behind the outstanding Youth and Family Department serving our children. Join me in saying thank you to the teachers and the youth. Take time to thank them personally when you have the opportunity.
In love and light,
Richard

The Unity Community Outreach Team and the Board of Trustees are considering participating in the Chesapeake Area Shelter Team (C.A.S.T.) next winter. This is an interfaith program where various faith organizations volunteer for a week each during the winter, to house and feed homeless people overnight, roughly 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. As you can imagine, were we to participate, this would be a huge undertaking that would truly “take a village”! The City of Virginia Beach has a similar program called Winter Shelter. Church of the Holy Family, 1279 N. Great Neck Rd., Virginia Beach, will be hosting the homeless the week of March 1st – March 8th. They would welcome additional hands, and this could be an opportunity for us to experience first-hand how the program works. They need volunteers for the Monday evening dinner on March 6th, but there are also other dates and times available during the week, including breakfast! If you are interested in participating or just learning more about C.A.S.T./Winter Shelter, please contact Lynn Kline at lynnhkline@hotmail.com or 757-374-9969.
