Ana Vincent,
Director of Youth and Family Ministry

It is unbelievable that January 2023 is almost over and I am happy to say that the Youth Ministry has started strong this year. We have a wonderful year planned ahead in the Youth and Family Ministry. I have scheduled semi-annual meetings for the parents and quarterly meetings/training for the teachers. Bea and I look forward to meeting with everyone and keeping you updated. During the summer months we will have the traditional offsite Picnic for the entire congregation, a Fun Sunday, and a Splash Sunday for the Youth. We will have no classes during the month of August to give our wonderful, dedicated teachers a break.
On January 29th, which is the 5th Sunday of this month, we would normally have a multi-generational service, instead we will have a “Movie & Popcorn” day for the youth in the Great Hall. Save the date for Saturday, February 4th from 10 am to 12 noon for a YFM Fun Day, everyone in the congregation is welcome to attend. More information on this event will be provided at a later date. The YOU Spring Rally will be on April 28-30 and the Uniteens retreat will be on May 19-21. These are just a few events that are scheduled for this year. I will keep you updated on all of these activities.
On a different note we are looking for Nursery Angels to assist the Nursery Staff on Sundays between 10:30 am and 12:00 pm. Please see Bea or myself for more information on how you can serve in the Youth Ministry.
In loving service,
Ana Vincent

Recovery Group Announcement
Group meetings begin 7 p.m. January 31
Please join Sam and Dawn as we continue to welcome a few more members to the “Support for Recovery” group… As you take your “personal inventory”, healing from past traumas/misunderstandings is available through loving group support. The Spiritual Joy of Unity is available to all people as we use key AA principles. Eliminating “powerless ” and “God as we know him” we use 10 steps. We strengthen our core membership, and allow group “drop-ins”.
Please reach out to Dawn Bennet at rdben865@gmail.com for more information and to RSVP. Feel free to leave a phone number and Dawn will call with more information.

Thank you to all who donated to replace our sanctuary blinds. Our technician came out last week and installed brand new blinds that operate smoothly! A special shout out to the Unity Renaissance Sisterhood for leading this effort!

Unity Renaissance earned three stars in the “Sustained Distinguished Performance 2023” from the Elizabeth River Project. We doubled our solar power, which now offsets all of our electrical needs – even with a building expansion! Furthermore, our expansion was built over prior paving, meaning no new impervious areas were added to our site. A special thank you to Susan Lang for overseeing this project and helping us to work with local environmental agencies to ensure we are not impacting our precious planet in a negative way!

Please submit news of your celebrations, milestones, needs, or challenges to Rev. Ann (revann@unityren.org) or Ellysia Flores (ellysia@unityren.org). Note: Items included only if the person involved (where possible) has given their permission.
