As we navigate all the changes in our community, we need to be clear in our communication with one another. I am drawn to The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. In particular, the second is “don’t take anything personally” and the third agreement is “don’t make assumptions”. We all want what is best for Unity Renaissance and that needs to be at the forefront as we move through the processes involved with determining who we are as a community and where we want to go next on our journey. Even as we all make our spiritual journey at our own pace and how is best for us, we are also a family moving through this change together so we must talk with each other about what we are seeking. The Board, Rev Bunch and the rest of the staff are all working together to keep everyone informed of what is happening in this time of transition. If we all take the time to listen to each other and ask questions when we are unsure, then we will all be better for it.
Taking the time to ask for clarity serves everyone, and our ego doesn’t get in the way because we did not make assumptions or take things personally because we misunderstood. Take a moment and ask yourself as you navigate this change in our community “Do I know what the person meant by that?” or “Did I listen to all sides before I made my decision?” Or did you jump to a conclusion based on an assumption?
These are not always easy lessons to learn, but they are important lessons to learn if we want to work effectively to grow our community. The transition that we are navigating is great and we will be a stronger community, the key is to listen to each other and to be open. There are great things ahead for Unity Renaissance; we are a strong, vibrant, growing community. Be open and remember to communicate openly.
Blessings,
Valerie Winters
