with Donna Shannon, PhD in Pastoral Counseling
This interactive class was inspired by a metaphysical interpretation of biblical scripture (Mark 7:32-34) where Jesus healed a man who was deaf and mute. We will utilize spiritual practices and principles to explore what it means to listen with openness and speak from a place of humility and love in an increasingly divided world. Sessions will include coalition building activities, discussion, journal writing, and access to guided meditations. The founder of the National Coalition Building Institute, Cherie Brown, will be the guest presenter on March 1st.

Panera Bread Team
Sacred Service Opportunity
We are so grateful. For the last seven years Panera volunteers have picked up and delivered bread to the transitional center and HER (Help and Emergency Response) shelter. Our team has done amazing things, helping to make sure that people in need are fed. As we head into the new year, we are asking for 3 to 5 more volunteers to deliver a few boxes of bread on Wednesday mornings or afternoon, once a month. Must have car and be able to lift a box of bread.
Please text or call Deborah Morefield at 757-635-0933.

Recovery Group Announcement
Group meetings begin 7 p.m. January 31
Please join Sam and Dawn as we continue to welcome a few more members to the “Support for Recovery” group… As you take your “personal inventory”, healing from past traumas/misunderstandings is available through loving group support. The Spiritual Joy of Unity is available to all people as we use key AA principles. Eliminating “powerless ” and “God as we know him” we use 10 steps. We strengthen our core membership, and allow group “drop-ins”.
Please reach out to Dawn Bennet at rdben865@gmail.com for more information and to RSVP. Feel free to leave a phone number and Dawn will call with more information.

The Unity Community Outreach Team and the Board of Trustees are considering participating in the Chesapeake Area Shelter Team (C.A.S.T.) next winter. This is an interfaith program where various faith organizations volunteer for a week each during the winter, to house and feed homeless people overnight, roughly 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. As you can imagine, were we to participate, this would be a huge undertaking that would truly “take a village”! The City of Virginia Beach has a similar program called Winter Shelter. Church of the Holy Family, 1279 N. Great Neck Rd., Virginia Beach, will be hosting the homeless the week of March 1st – March 8th. They would welcome additional hands, and this could be an opportunity for us to experience first-hand how the program works. They need volunteers for the Monday evening dinner on March 6th, but there are also other dates and times available during the week, including breakfast! If you are interested in participating or just learning more about C.A.S.T./Winter Shelter, please contact Lynn Kline at lynnhkline@hotmail.com or 757-374-9969.
