Dear Unity Family,
As your Board Treasurers, we would like to express our deepest gratitude for your exceptional financial support. Your cheerful and faithful giving has been a tremendous blessing to our community, enabling us to fulfill our mission and vision. We are truly grateful for your generous contributions, which have made a significant impact on the lives of our congregation and community.
Your gifts ensure that our spiritual home remains a thriving place to worship, fellowship, and grow. We have also been able to care for the needs of our church family and neighbors through our outreach ministries, providing support and care to those in need. Additionally, we have hosted fun and engaging activities for our children, helping them to grow in their faith and build meaningful relationships with one another.
We have also been able to maintain and improve our facilities, equipment, and technology, enhancing our ministry’s effectiveness and providing a welcoming and comfortable environment for our community.
Once again, we express our heartfelt appreciation for your remarkable generosity and support. We are honored to serve as your Board Treasurers and look forward to continuing to work together to build a vibrant, thriving, and spiritually enriching community.

This three-week class will focus on our awareness of personal family systems, as well as church family systems. Dr. Murray Bowen, a psychiatrist, developed a theory in the 1950s that families are systems poised somewhere between emotionally healthy behaviors or at risk of unhealthy behaviors that cause conflict. Since conflict is natural, church leaders are now applying Bowen’s tenets to congregational awareness to affirm ways to be emotionally healthy individuals in an emotionally healthy church.
Bowen’s studies and research continue to be relevant today. And sometimes we need a TV sitcom like “All in the Family” from the 1970s to reveal our personal and cultural values through two characters like Archie and Edith Bunker. What can they teach us about our personal self and our family-of-origin? What can they teach us about our church family?
Warning: This class may cause chemicalization, inability to sleep, desire to blame others, unforgiveness, resentment, and shameful behaviors before you feel the long-term effects of self-forgiveness, self-love, and self-care!

Vegan Cooking Class
With Lisbet Chiriboga
6 p.m. Thursday, July 20
Unity Renaissance Kitchen
Come learn about the health benefits and versatility of jackfruit. This will be a hands-on class where we will prepare jackfruit tacos. Get tips on healthy plant-based eating from the instructor – 23 years vegan. (Gluten-free).
Our routine exploitation of animals for food boomerangs in countless ways affecting both our outer world and the inner landscape of our daily experience. Many people are interested in a more conscious way of living and a vegan diet blends mindfulness and kindness and respect for each other and all expressions of life, creating a practical foundation for harmony and freedom for ourselves and the world.
$40 per person, pre-registration is required. Max of 16 students. Age 18 and up.

Youth Education Announcement
We hope you’re having a great summer! As the hot weather and fun activities continue, we wanted to let you know that our Youth Education program will be taking a much-needed break during the month of August. But don’t worry, we’ll be back in full swing in September, ready to equip your children with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. We know how important education is, but we also believe that taking a break to recharge and have fun is just as important. So enjoy your summer break, and we’ll see you soon!

“My Space – My Pace”
Program to Close Learning Gaps
Returning to Unity Renaissance This Summer
Youth Education Teacher Kathleen Barnett is spearheading a very special, limited-time program at Unity Renaissance this summer to close learning gaps for children aged 7-11.
The program, “My Space – My Pace,” will run from July 5-August 5, and will pair each student with a trained educator for one-on-one tutoring from noon to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Instructors will be meeting with their students in the classrooms in our education wing. The group will also take field trips on Mondays to help the children develop life skills and practical understanding.
“My Space-My Pace” will provide lessons and learning experiences specifically tailored for each student based on their past academic performance, progress reports, assessments, teacher input, and the student’s social and emotional needs. Customized lessons will help prepare the students for transition to a new environment in the fall for which they may otherwise be ill-prepared academically or socially/emotionally.
If you would like to donate to this program or volunteer in some way, please contact Kathleen Barnett at kidznkat45@yahoo.com. If you know a child age 7-11 who might be a candidate for this program, you may also email Kathleen with contact information

Big thanks to Unity Renaissance member Debra Amme, who coordinated our Unity Renaissance booth at the Hampton Roads Pride Event last weekend, and to all our wonderful volunteers! We had a great turnout and many opportunities to spread the word about Unity Renaissance to those seeking a spiritual home.

Last weekend was a bloomin’ brilliant time for Unity! The Mighty Men of Unity and the Unity Sisterhood teamed up to show off their green thumbs and completed an enormous amount of gardening on our property. They dug, they planted, they weeded, and they watered, all with smiles on their faces and a sense of unity in their hearts. Thanks to their hard work, our grounds are now bursting with color and life! We couldn’t be more grateful to have such dedicated members in our community. Let’s give a round of applause to our Mighty Men and Unity Sisterhood for making our gardens grow!
